Marcus Rashford issues Manchester United fitness update

Marcus Rashford says he is at a stage where he feels he can do more as he draws nearer to a return from injury.

The Manchester United forward hasn't played since suffering a serious back injury against Wolves in the FA Cup on January 15 and he had been considered touch-and-go to play again this season, before the campaign was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last month United confirmed the 22-year-old would be stepping up his recovery from injury, with medical staff keeping a watchful eye on his progress from distance.

Rashford insists he is getting fitter every day but says the real test is to overcome the mental struggles of not having played a match in nearly three months.

Asked if he would hypothetically be fit to play again in three or four weeks, Rashford told BT Sport: "I am just trying to keep myself ticking over.

"I'd say mentally is probably more difficult for me than the physical part for me right now.

"Because I am at a stage now where I feel I can do more, want to do more, but I understand we don't know how long this virus is going to be going on for.

"We don't actually know when the next time we will be playing football is. So got to stay patient and keep working on the mental side."
