Marcus Rashford injury: Manchester United striker ‘unlikely’ to play against Leicester

Marcus Rashford is unlikely to be fit for Manchester United’s FA Cup quarter final against Leicester City on Sunday, with Edinson Cavani also struggling to be available.

Rashford was forced off midway through United’s 1-0 Europa League win over AC Milan, having only recently returned from an ankle injury suffered in the Manchester derby.

The 23-year-old is also carrying a shoulder problem which may require surgery at the end of the season, after England’s participation at Euro 2020.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not reveal the nature of Rashford’s injury or know its full extent, but sounded a pessimistic note about the United forward’s chances of being available at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

“With Marcus I don't really know, I can't say. I hope, but most unlikely that he'll be fit, but I hope so,” Solskjaer said.

“As you said, it's just an hour or so since the end of the game so we haven't really got to the bottom of it.”

Cavani was a late withdrawal from United’s travelling party to Milan and has only played once in the last month due to a series of muscle injuries.

Solskjaer was equally pessimistic about the Uruguayan’s chances of returning against Leicester, though did not rule him entirely out of contention.

“With Edinson, he has worked really hard, he's joined in training sessions and towards the end he needs to top it up to feel 100 per cent ready for the game and hasn't really got there yet,” Solskjaer said.

“It's down to him, he wants to be 100 per cent when he joins in, he doesn't want to come in and look off the pace.

“Hopefully he can be ready for Sunday but I'm not sure either, because after training yesterday he felt something and couldn't train with us.”
