Marcus Rashford has explained why former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho couldn't get the best out of him at Old Trafford.
The striker joined former teammate Wayne Rooney on Rio Ferdinand's Between the Lines show on BT Sport to discuss United's past and present sides.
The Derby County boss revealed the key difference under Sir Alex Ferguson compared to to other managers was that he gave his players the freedom to interchange positions.
Rashford was in agreement with the ex-England international and believes he plays his best football when he is given the chance to roam around different areas of the pitch.
But that's not something he was given the luxury to do under Mourinho, according to the 23-year-old, who insists the Special One's system was a lot more rigid.
Rooney said: "I always quite good at reading the game and it does take a long time to be able to do that.
"I always felt if I was struggling in a game if that was out wide, a striker or in a no.10 position, I'd always try and occupy a different position which is causing the opposition the problems.
"But what we had was good rotation. We had Tevez, Ronaldo, Louis Saha, Park Ji-sung, great players. We interchanged our positions a lot and caused team problems.
"I think it's good we had that freedom."
Asked if players have that flexibility to interchange positions in the modern game, Rashford said: "I think that's when we play our best football.
"I think under Jose, it was a bit like 'you play there, you play there and you play there'
"You can do a job but it is difficult for me to play my best football."
