Marcus Rashford has revealed he was substituted by Manchester United against Norwich as a 'precaution'.
The 22-year-old marked his 200th appearance for United by netting a brilliant brace as they defeated Norwich 4-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Rashford was in confident mood as he spearheaded United's victory against Daniel Farke's side but was substituted before having the chance to complete his hat-trick.
Robin van Persie remains the last United player to have netted three goals in a single Premier League game with his heroics when Sir Alex Ferguson's side secured the title against Aston Villa seven years ago.
Rashford admits he fancied his chances at netting another against Norwich at the weekend but is now looking ahead to facing Wolves in the FA Cup third round replay next week.
"Fancied a hat-trick today but busy few weeks for us," the forward wrote on Twitter. "Just a precaution and looking forward to getting back at it Wednesday."
United bounced back from defeat against Man City in style with their performance on Saturday and speaking after the game Ole Gunnar Solskjaer piled the praise on the England international.
"Fantastic effort by Marcus getting to 200 games so quickly," the United manager told BBC Sport. "He got through most of the game, he is struggling a little bit so we took him off. He kept his cool. Very pleased with Marcus."
"We reacted today, we can bounce back and we are taking more than two or three steps forward before one back, because behind the scenes we know we are doing good work."
