Several Manchester United players have sent good luck messages to Dan James after the Wales international joined Leeds United.
The Whites wrapped up a deadline day deal for James for a fee of £25million with the winger becoming the fourth addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team squad this summer.
James started for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday but Leeds moved quickly to secure the 23-year-old’s signature after he became available.
James admitted the transfer process felt like “deja vu” after he came within a whisker of moving to Elland Road in January 2019 only for the move to fall through despite the player having a medical.
But there were no hiccups this time around with the former Swansea City wideman putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.
James’ former teammates were quick to wish him well in his new venture. Goalkeeper David de Gea quote-tweeted Man United’s announcement confirming the transfer by saying: “All the best” and adding a heart emoji.
Midfielder Bruno Fernandes followed suit, posting: “All the best @daniel_james97” on his Instagram story.
James was clearly well thought of within the Old Trafford dressing room, with forward Marcus Rashford also taking to Instagram to write: “My guy good luck @daniel_james97”.
James follows Jack Harrison, Junior Firpo, Kristoffer Klaesson and Leo Hjelde as permanent arrivals at the club this summer, while Amari Miller, Sean McGurk and Lewis Bate joined the under-23s ranks.
James, who scored nine goals and notched nine assists in 74 appearances for the Red Devils, told Sky Sports: “It feels great to get it over the line and I can now move forward.
“It’s been a whirlwind for me, it’s been a crazy time but I’m here now. I’m grateful for the club for being interested in me and believing in me, which is proven by what they did two and a half years ago. I’m happy to be here now and playing in front of these fans.”
