Marcus Rashford and Manchester United stop Edu from finalising £56m Arsenal striker transfer

Marcus Rashford could potentially be blocking a potential transfer deal between Arsenal and Barcelona, as the Gunners are looking to offload Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to Spanish outlet EFE, Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Rashford’s situation, and the Catalan club are confident they can lure him to the Camp Nou.

The La Liga side have also been linked to signing Aubameyang, who is surplus to requirements currently, after his recent disciplinary breach.

Mikel Arteta was also reportedly interested in Mason Greenwood, but Rashford’s transfer to Barcelona would also certainly block that deal from happening.

Rashford has had a frustrating season so far at United , with the England international missing the first two months after undergoing shoulder surgery, while his form has suffered since returning.

The 24-year-old’s deal at Old Trafford runs until 2023, with the option of a further year, although reports in Spain are suggesting he could be tempted away from the club, with Barcelona likely to be the destination due to their ongoing striker crisis, following the retirement announcement from Sergio Aguero.

However, it looked as though the Catalan club had chosen Aubameyang as Aguero’s replacement, as the 32-year-old had been left out of the last three Arsenal matchday squads, with his future under Arteta looking bleak, as it was also announced that the striker will not return to first-team training until after the African Cup of Nations in February.

El Nacional had reported that Xavi is interested in bringing Arsenal's former captain to the Camp Nou, in order to solve the striker issues of their own.

Despite this, the signing of Rashford will certainly be more desirable due to the difference in age, and the recent questions posed about Aubameyang’s attitude.

The Gabonese international has been heavily criticised for his dressing disruption, which was also reportedly the reason why Real Madrid had rejected his services.

These developments about Rashford’s move to the La Liga side will certainly disappoint the Arsenal camp and even Aubameyang’s team because a move to Barcelona seemed like the most favourable outcome.

The options of other clubs for the 32-year-old is starting to grow thinner, which will only cause further problems between the club, and the player, but with the transfer window looming, it bodes a great opportunity for both parties to come to a sensible decision
