Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes among eight Man Utd stars kept behind after LASK win

Manchester United secured their place in the Europa League quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over LASK at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were lacklustre on their return to European action but got the job done having carried in a 5-0 lead on aggregate from the first leg.

But much sterner tests now lie ahead - and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was seemingly keen to take the opportunity to make sure they are prepared.

After their win, in which he made a host of changes, several players were kept behind for extra work at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford were amongst a group of players who took to the Old Trafford pitch after the game concluded for shooting drills.

They were joined by Mason Greenwood, also an unused substitute, whilst Anthony Martial, who came off the bench to score the winner, also took part along with Andreas Pereira and James Garner.

Full-backs Ethan Laird and Aaron Wan-Bissaka joined the impromptu training session to provide crosses with Solskjaer clearly feeling things still needed to be worked on.

Speaking after the game, Solskjaer indicated his side needed to find some sharpness again after the resumption of the Premier League season.

The Red Devils, who have already confirmed their spot back in the Champions League next season, face Copenhagen in the last eight as the revamped tournament is completed in Germany later this month.

"We learned the players need to play to keep that sharpness," he told BT Sport. "Some of these lads haven't played for a while and it showed. We won, we gave a debut to a young lad, it's been a good night.

"It is that sharpness you lack when you don't play regularly, some haven't played since lockdown, for me it was a good exercise, it's job done, minutes under the belt and on to Copenhagen."
