Marcus Rashford admits he must make injury decision ahead of Manchester United season

Marcus Rashford has opted to wait until the end of England's European Championship campaign to decide whether he needs an operation to repair his shoulder problem.

The striker has had his fair share of injury woes with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer giving the Mancunian a heavy workload of game-time throughout the 2020/21 campaign.

The 23-year old began last season with Manchester United needing a rest after playing non-stop from June to August, when football resumed after the covid-19 pandemic, after recovering from a stress fracture back injury.

And Rashford's workload seemed to impact his fitness and form, as he has only scored once for United in their last 10 games of the campaign.

Rashford has played 76 times for club and country in the last 12 months as United have relied on their No.10 for goals in a testing post-lockdown period.

Rashford was, however, still called up by Gareth Southgate for this summer's Euros — although many United fans may have been relieved to see him starting England's three games so far on the bench.

As a result of this, Rashford has elected to make a decision on his injuries after the Euros.

"It's either an operation or I don't get an operation," he told the British media on Thursday.

"I'm not 100 per cent sure if I need it yet, so I'll just take it as it comes. I'll finish strong here and I've got a few weeks off to just relax and decide what I'm going to do."

Rashford said he did not know how long he would be out if he underwent surgery. He also explained the possible impact of his injuries on his form.

"Whatever that is down to, it doesn't really matter because it has been going on since early on in the season," he added. "I managed to get through the season with United.

"I think I had 36 goal involvements so I can't look back at the year and say 'mmm, I should have taken time off to do this and do that'. That's just not the way I look at things."

"I just want to be available for every game."
