Marcus Morris tweets Thunder ‘gonna battle’ after adding Markieff

Boston Celtics forward Marcus Morris believes the Thunder got a little bit better last week with the news that the club will be signing his brother, Markieff, to a contract.

It was reported last Thursday by Shams Charania of The Athletic that the Thunder will be signing Markieff after the 6-foot-10 forward was released by the New Orleans Pelicans following a trade from the Washington Wizards.

Prior to reportedly agreeing to sign with the Thunder, Markieff was also apparently considering the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors.

Marcus issued the tweet just a few hours after the report by Charania surfaced, all but confirming the news. The Thunder have not yet made the signing official but are expected to do so by Wednesday.

Markieff averaged 11.5 points and 5.1 rebounds in 34 games this season for the Wizards while he shot 43.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from 3-point range.

Thunder forward Paul George said that night he is onboard with the move.

We finished as one of the best records in the past 10 games going into this break. We’re a good group. We got a big piece in Markieff that we’re excited for and we’re going to be ready for the second half after this break.

George also said over All-Star Weekend that Markieff is an underrated player in the league so the team is likely excited they were able to lock in a deal with him as he figures to be a big addition for the second unit.

The Thunder were said to be active in the buyout market and appear to have picked up a great player that can contribute immediately.
