Marcus Morris: Celtics are ‘not that same team’ from regular season

Throughout the 2018-19 season, the Boston Celtics dealt with as much drama as one team could handle. Sometimes it seemed like it was the veterans vs. the younger players. Based on the players’ interactions with the media, there were other instances it felt as if multiple sub-groups had formed.

At the same time, the same Celtics team preached things would change once the playoffs got rolling. So far, they’ve back that up, sweeping the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs with a 110-106 finish on Sunday.

Although Kyrie Irving and Al Horford struggled offensively (8-for-32 combined from the floor), Game 4 felt like the greatest team effort of the series. That may have been a result of Gordon Hayward, Marcus Morris and Terry Rozier combining for 49 points off the bench.

Or it might be a result of the Celtics actually turning the page and flipping the switch like they promised. Based on Marcus Morris’ comments to reporters in Indy, he seems to think the Game 4 win and the sweep was a combination of the two.

The regular season is done with. We’re not that same team. Guys understand what’s the goal in here and I think it shows on the court. We’re backing each other up. Every game, somebody else is stepping up. Our depth has been a strong point for us.

The Celtics await the result of the first-round matchup between Milwaukee and Detroit. The Bucks head into Monday’s Game 4 up 3-0.
