Marcus Mariota reflects on returning to the field with Raiders: ‘To be truthful, it’s been a long journey’

Marcus Mariota has gone from No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 draft to the backup quarterback job with the Las Vegas Raiders, a fall from the high expectations everyone had when he left Oregon.

But on Thursday night, in a 30-27 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in overtime, he was back on the field after a Derek Carr groin injury and had a really good game — 226 passing yards, a passing touchdown and an interception, plus 88 yards rushing and a score on the ground. He also earned quite a bit of money in the process.

After the game, he reflected on getting back to the field, and you can just tell from the way he spoke about his “journey” that it was tough, with injuries, surgeries, “mental … lapses,” confidence and so much more:

Awesome. Good to see him back under center and showing flashes of the talent we all loved coming out of college.
