Marcos Rojo seals Manchester United exit with return to boyhood club Estudiantes

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has completed his loan move to Estudiantes.

Rojo, 29, returns to his boyhood club having failed to earn regular action under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, in a bid to save his hopes of a spot at this summer's Copa America.

United chiefs have been looking to offload the 29 year-old for some time, but saw a deadline day move to Everton back in August fall through.

This month, they found Rojo unwilling to be used as a makeweight in a deal to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.

Rojo was given time off by United in December, spending Christmas in Argentina with his family, to consider his future.

He returned to Manchester and intimated that he was keen to head back home, having spoken to ex-United midfielder and current Estudiantes chairman Juan Sebastian Veron.

Rojo believes that regular action in South America can see him force his way back into Lionel Scaloni’s squad - having pulled out in November due to injury.

The defender, who arrived at United in a £16million deal from Sporting back in 2014, has made just nine appearances this term.

Only one of those has been a Premier League start, against Liverpool in October, in which he was drafted into the starting XI after an injury to Axel Tuanzebe in the warmup.

Rojo returns to Estudiantes where he links up with long-time Argentina teammate Javier Mascherano - who joined the club in December after a sojourn in China.

Rojo came through the youth ranks at Estudiantes before leaving the club for Spartak Moscow in 2011.
