Marcos Rojo completes Manchester United transfer exit

Marcos Rojo has completed his transfer from Manchester United to join Boca Juniors.

The centre-back has completed a medical with the Buenos Aires side, with the two clubs agreeing a free transfer, after Rojo had been made surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

MEN Sport understands United agreed to terminate Rojo's contract early, from its original June 2021 expiry, allowing the 30-year-old to join the Argentine giants on a three-year deal.

The Argentinian international brings to an end a six-and-a-half year stint at Old Trafford in which he made 123 appearances, including 64 league starts and scored two goals. His final appearance for the club was in the 3-1 win over Brighton at Old Trafford in November 2019 and he was not registered for this season's league campaign.

United paid £16million to bring Rojo to the club in the 2014 summer, following the player's impressive World Cup showing with Argentina, when he helped them reach the final. He was a semi-regular under Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho but was quickly jettisoned by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian confirmed on deadline day that Rojo would depart. He was loaned to Estudiantes a year ago, in January 2020, and now joins another side from his homeland in Boca.
