Marcos Rojo breaks silence on Manchester United loan exit

Marcos Rojo says he rejected other clubs to seal a 'dream' move to Estudiantes in the January transfer window.

Manchester United defender Rojo left the club on loan last month as he looked to rejuvenate his career following a lack of regular playing time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

MEN Sport first reported late last year that the Argentine international was looking to leave in the winter window as he looks to seal a place in the national side for this summer's Copa America.

Rojo agreed a temporary move back to his boyhood club last week and he admits it is a dream come true to be back playing in his homeland.

“Many things came together," Rojo told El Intransigente.

"I need to play, return to my level, the family insisted, my old woman told me to come back. I had many offers to go to other clubs, but what better than being at home. I hope to be on the pitch as soon as possible.

“I want to go to practice and be with the boys as soon as possible. I’m very happy. It’s something I dreamed of, there was a chance and it could be done. I talked to Sebastian (Veron) quite a lot but one day my head clicked and I decided to return. It all came together.”

Rojo made 122 appearances for United in almost six years with the club but saw his progress affected by injury struggles. The 29-year-old will be looking to return to form with regular first-team football, and he admits a desire for regular playing time played a key role in his transfer decision.

He added: “I suffered a lot of injuries lately, I went to the bench a lot. And I needed to compete and what better than to do it at home.

"Argentine football grew a lot and this is going to be a beautiful challenge. I talked with almost everyone and they helped me at this time. I don’t know what to say to the fans, it’s incredible.”
