Marcos Llorente and why his move to Atletico Madrid is great news for Arsenal fans

While strengthening the Arsenal squad is of the utmost importance, it's also essential that Unai Emery doesn't lose any of his star players.

A number of first team regular have been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium - most notably Granit Xhaka.

The Swiss international has attracted the attention of Atletico Madrid this summer, but recent events in the Spanish capital may have provided some good news for the Gunners.

That positive news comes in the form of Marcos Llorente's imminent move to the Wando Metropolitano Stadium.

The 24-year-old is due to complete a medical with a view to signing a five-year deal after Atletico agreed a deal with Real Madrid for the Spanish midfielder.

Assuming that the deal does go through, it'll be a huge relief to the red half of north London.

With Llorente filling the hole that was kept free for Granit Xhaka, it means that Arsenal should be able to keep hold of their star midfielder.

The only way that would change is if Xhaka forced the issue of a move away from the Emirates Stadium, although that would represent a huge U-turn based on his comments earlier this month where he said: I have another four years contract, I only signed last year.

"I'm happy there, my family too. That's the most important."
