A rejuvenated Marcos Alonso is reportedly open to signing a new deal at Chelsea.
The left-back fell out of favour under former manager Frank Lampard, with his last start occurring back in late-September against West Brom under the Blues legend.
Lampard was allegedly left livid by the Spaniard during Chelsea's 3-3 draw with the Baggies as Alonso reportedly left the stadium and watched the rest of the match on the team bus after being substituted.
After the game, Lampard, who was sacked in late-January, singled Alonso out for criticism.
"The first one Marcos heads it into the middle of the pitch for them for a transition," he said.
"Marcos loses his man for the third goal from the corner, a clear mistake. You can do as many meetings as you want, if you are going to make those mistakes you give yourself a mountain to climb.”
The 30-year-old was not included in Chelsea's matchday squads right up until late-January and made only three appearances this season with Lampard at the helm.
His first start in several months came under new boss Thomas Tuchel, where he scored a superb strike against Burnley.
Since then he has displaced summer signing Ben Chilwell as the side's first-choice left-back and now The Sun claims he is hoping for a one-year extension to his stay at Chelsea.
He has started four of Chelsea's last five Premier League games and doesn't seem to be likely to lose his spot any time soon.
The report adds he had been looking at a switch to a Premier League rival or a return to Serie A, where he used to play for Fiorentina before signing for the Blues in 2016 for £24m.
Alonso himself appears to be happy under Tuchel's tutelage.
“I have more freedom to attack because we are better covered for defending, but it’s not about the system,” the defender told Chelsea’s official website.
“When we play more organised, all together, knowing what to do and where to be on the pitch then this team has great potential to achieve big things.
“We have a long way until the end of the season to show that and prove we deserve a better position in the table than where we are now but we have to fight for it.”
Chelsea have conceded just one goal in six Premier League games under Tuchel and Alonso may have had a part to play in that defensive solidity.
They have risen to fourth in the table and have picked up 13 points from a possible 15 in recent weeks.
