Marcos Alonso's hits back at Newcastle and referee takes a tumble - Chelsea moments missed

Referee down and bows

Referees always say that their job is not really to take centre stage, about from maybe Mike Dean for many of the matches that he takes charge of.

But Andre Marriner certainly had all the eyes on him when he took a tumble during Chelsea's 1-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon.

The referee was struck by the ball, and then decided to fall over. However, it looked like he went down pretty easily.

After a quick roll on the floor, Marriner got himself back to his feet, however not before there were cheers from around the whole of Stamford Bridge.

Marriner decided to take the opportunity to bow towards the Matthew Harding End and have his moment in the spotlight. All in jest, of course.

Alonso’s response to Newcastle boos

From the very first time that Marcos Alonso touched the ball, the Spaniard was getting several boos from the Newcastle away supporters in the Shed End.

That's all down to the fact that the Spaniard spent six months on loan with the Magpies' bitter enemies, Sunderland, in 2014.

There was a lot of singing from the away fans towards Alonso, and he responded with an excellent winner, and then he took to social media as well.

The 28-year-old tagged in his former club, the Black Cats, into a tweet showing that he still has that connection with his former club.

Steward takes a blast from Jorginho

Jorginho had another excellent game for the Blues, impressing in the base of the midfield once more and really kicking the Blues on.

The Italy international has been a key component of the success that the Blues are experiencing right now, and the 27-year-old has controlled the midfield.

But for one steward, he was on the receiving end of a Jorginho clearance and almost got his hat taken off him.

The midfielder looked to clear the ball away and the ball whizzed past an unsuspecting steward who was looking the wrong way.

Willian under his foot

Willian is certainly having a very good spell for the Blues right now, with Frank Lampard trusting him quite a bit to be a leader for the squad.

The 31-year-old really came alive in the second half at Stamford Bridge, making several really good breaks to get Chelsea trying moving forward.

Some of his corners were excellent as well, better than he has done on several occasions in the past, however there was a bit of an embarrassing moment for the Brazilian.

With the ball moving to him slowly on the wing, he let it go under his foot and out for a Newcastle United throw-in.

Not his finest moment!
