Marcos Alonso delivers worrying Ruben Loftus-Cheek injury update ahead of Europa League final

Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has provided an injury update on Ruben Loftus-Cheek ahead of the Europa League final against Arsenal.

The midfielder came on as a half-time substitute in the Final Whistle on Hate charity game against New England Revolution, but was involved in a heavy challenge and had to be substituted.

He went straight down the tunnel with the club's medical staff.

But Blues supporters' worst fears were confirmed after the game.

Loftus-Cheek was seen hobbling through the mixed zone on crutches - which does not bode well for his prospects of playing in Baku against the Gunners on May 29.

Whilst there has been no confirmation of the injury just yet, Alonso didn't sound too positive when providing an update.

"They still don't know but I think he has a little bit of pain, it doesn't look very good to be honest," Alonso told Sky Sports . "But fingers crossed he will be back as soon as possible.

"I think it's his Achilles, he was on his own.

"We are all very sad about this, it was very important not to get any injuries in this kind of game. Hopefully it won't be too bad."

If Loftus-Cheek can't make the final he will join Antonio Rudiger and Callum Hudson-Odoi on the sidelines, while N'Golo Kante is a doubt for the trip to Azerbaijan after missing the last two games with a hamstring problem.
