Marco Verratti dismisses Manchester United's Champions League comeback against PSG as a fluke

Marco Verratti has dismissed Manchester United’s miraculous comeback victory against PSG in the Champions League as a fluke.

Verratti played in both games and was influential in helping PSG to gain a 2-0 lead after the first leg at Old Trafford.

No team had ever advanced in the Champions League after losing the first leg at home before and with United being without 10 players due to injury and suspension victory seemed an impossible task.

But United were inspired in Paris and did the unprecedented.

Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the first half to give United a 2-1 lead on the night but that wouldn't be enough.

Then United were awarded a last gasp penalty for hand ball and Marcus Rashford made no mistake from the spot to send United into delirium.

Manchester United great Paul Scholes is right about Ander Herrera

It will be a night that lasts long in the memory but Verratti has tried to put a dampener on it by saying the victory was a fluke.

“Maybe I’m more frustrated than others," the Italian midfielder told Telefoot, "But, football is like that. We can’t have everything.

"The fans are disappointed by the elimination. I’m confident in this team. This match, if we played it 10 times, we would win nine.

"We must not change much. We have a great coach and some of the best players in the world with Neymar and Kylian [Mbappe]."

United will be hoping to advance to the semi-finals of the Champions League this week but will have another memorable come back to do so.

Barcelona currently lead the tie 1-0 after the first leg at Old Trafford so history will have to strike twice.
