Marco Silva to make late decision on Alex Iwobi's fitness ahead of Watford clash

Alex Iwobi will be given every chance to prove he is fit enough to face Watford this weekend.

Everton's deadline day signing joins up with Marco Silva's squad at Finch Farm for the first time today.

The Blues beat last week's transfer cut-off to seal Iwobi's £28m switch from Arsenal but Silva is unsure if the winger will win the race to be fit to play at Goodison on Saturday.

Iwbobi has been on a break following the Africa Cup of Nations and had not taken part in any of the Gunners' pre-season schedule.

Silva expects there to be a “big gap” between the 23-year-old's physical state and the rest of the Everton squad's but he is refusing to rule him out of the game with Watford.

“He will start to work with us on Monday,” Silva said.

“He was on holiday after the Africa Cup. He starts on Monday and let's see how he reacts but there is a big gap between him and his team-mates, the physical condition will be a big gap, but let's see.

"Normally my decisions are coming from the training sessions and let's see how he will play, how he will do in the training sessions and after that I will take my decision on Friday.”
