Marco Silva speaks out on Everton keeping Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes amid Spurs links

Marco Silva has thrown the ball in Barcelona's court over the future of midfielder Andre Gomes.

The Toffees boss saw his side draw 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur on the final weekend of the season to cap off an excellent run of form in second half of the Premier League campaign.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all lost out to the Blues as they recovered from losing eight from 11 games in the league between December and February.

Gomes signed for Everton on loan last summer and became a valuable first team player for Silva.

He had previously been linked with Spurs and the north Londoners could pounce on the opportunity to bring him in before next season after he proved he can adapt to the Premier League.

"There is a Portuguese player in the squad that we want, which is Andre Gomes," Silve told O Jogo . "Continuity does not depend on us alone.

The Uefa rule change that will boost Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal ahead of European finals

"If that were the case, we were already on the way, depending on Barcelona and Andre Gomes. If they are positive, it's up to us to do the rest.

"He was very important to us and we were important to him as well, he is a great player with an excellent quality."

Gomes played 27 games for Everton in the Premier League this season, providing a foundation for the club attackers in a deeper role.

He scored one goal and assisted another and only Bernard and Richarlison made more dribbles per game than the 25-year-old.

After the sale of Mousa Dembele in the January transfer window, Tottenham are expected to sign a midfielder capable of winning, keeping and driving forward with the ball this summer.

Lyon's Tanguy Ndombele has also been linked to Spurs who have long been named as suitors to Gomes.
