Marco Silva salutes Everton's players and fans as raucous Goodison Park helps see off Arsenal

Marco Silva says Everton are in a “fantastic run” after beating Arsenal at a raucous Goodison today.

Phil Jagielka was the match-winner as his 10th-minute goal handed the Blues a fourth win in the last six games.

The Everton captain was a late call-up after Michael Keane, due to start against the Gunners, was forced to pull out just before kick-off due to illness.

But he stabbed home from close range early on after Luas Digne's long throw-in caused panic in the Arsenal defence.

Everton finished the game having registered 23 attempts in a dominant performance against the Champions League-chasing Arsenal and Silva says they should have won by a bigger margin.

But the Portuguese coach was thrilled with the victory and heaped praise on his players.

“I'm delighted,” Silva said.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's importance to Marco Silva grows further as Everton star continues to prove invaluable

“Everything what we did since the first minute, the desire, the fantastic spirit and we deserved the three points. We were the best team on the pitch.

“With more goals, it would be more fair. The chances we have created, we should score more goals. We were really solid, controlling all the moments of the game.

“Just the first 15 minutes of the second half, they cause some problems for us.

“After that, we reacted well. We created chances to score.

Everton have turned their form around since an enforced 17 day break, defeating Cardiff City, Chelsea, West Ham and now Arsenal.

A draw with Liverpool came before a collapse at Newcastle but Silva is encouraged by the response of his players.

“If you ask all of them, they will say we keep working the same way,” he said.

“We are in a fantastic run apart from the last 30 minutes against Newcastle and we lost that because of an offside goal.

“The first three months of the season, we had a fantastic run.

“We had that period in December and January, not good months for us at all and we lost some confidence.

"In that two months, the details were making the difference against us and we work on that.

"The performance is helping us also. I can see our goalkeeper had a calm afternoon, a very good sign for us.”
