Marco Silva's finally getting it right at Everton but Marcel Brands still faces huge transfer window

Terry McAllister (Walton)

The season is drawing to a close and Everton fans are looking towards the next transfer window and wondering what to expect as speculation begins.

There are a lot of players currently in the squad who do not fit the Marcel Brands' vision for the club which he outlined in the Football Innovation Summit.

Too many on the books are not contributing anything on the pitch and are taking home a significant salary for it.

The biggest challenge the Dutchman faces in the summer is not who he can sign but how effectively he can clear the deadwood from Finch Farm.

As enjoyable as the last handful of results have been, it’s important that the recruitment is based on the third quarter of this campaign.

The outlook for the future is looking far brighter than it did a few months ago when many supporters, myself included, couldn’t really see a way forward under Marco Silva.

The manager deserved criticism for the capitulations against the likes of Spurs, Millwall and Newcastle but equally now he deserves the plaudits for some of the fantastic results over the past few weeks.

Although the swashbuckling stuff we’ve seen offensively has been a joy to watch I’m even more pleased by how much we’ve finally managed to tighten up at the back.

Let’s make sure we keep this momentum going.

Sunday’s victory over Arsenal was one of the most dominant produced by an Everton team at Goodison Park for years.

Again, like last weekend against West Ham, the only criticism any Blue could have leaving the Old Lady is that we didn’t win by a greater margin.

Finally, after a tough couple of months, we are seeing the best of Marco Silva’s men.

It comes as no surprise, though, that the impressive run of form has coincided with the Blues having a much settled starting XI.

The benchmark and standards have been firmly set now, and it’s vital we go to Fulham in exactly the same manner this weekend.

Finally, we seem to be clicking just as the season is about to end – how very Everton.

The 1-0 scoreline flattered an admittedly poor Arsenal.

The defence limited the visitors to very few chances, the midfield would not let their’s breathe and Dominic Calvert-Lewin ran three central defenders ragged.

Since being given a run in the central position Calvert-Lewin seems to have gone from strength to strength, all he needs now is to add goals.

Andre Gomes is the sparkling diamond of our side and we must do everything in our powers to try and keep him.

Keep on keeping on.
