Marco Silva repeats the message Jordan Pickford delivered to Michael Keane after his first England goal

Marco Silva has repeated the message Jordan Pickford gave to his club and country team-mate Michael Keane, after the central defender celebrated his first England goal against Montenegro on Monday night: We want more goals!

Keane has scored once for Everton this season at Bournemouth but added an important second with Three Lions on his chest in Podgorica to equalise the Montenegrins' early goal.

Asked what he had said to Keane following Pickford's message, Silva smiled: "I said the same!

The key lessons Everton will learn from Spurs' new stadium ahead of Bramley-Moore move

"When our central defenders go up for set pieces they know it's something we demand from them because they have this quality.

"It was really important to see the smile on his face when he came back from the national team. It was really important for him and for us.

"You all know how difficult last season was for him.

"But he is performing well now, the way we know he can perform, and he and myself are really happy."

Silva also revealed that there is plenty more to come from the 25-year-old.

Marco Silva describes Yerry Mina injury as "serious for Everton and for player"

"We are working with him to develop him as a football player," he added.

"When he plays in the starting XI for the national team, with the quality we have here in this country, and can help the team scoring goals, it is important.

"He knows it will be tough for him to stay in the England team but he will fight, I don't doubt that.

"There are very good central defenders in this country but he got his chance and did well. And I am sure he will keep doing well.

Everton hero Tim Cahill makes major career decision

"Our ideas as a team, which is not just without the ball but with the ball, is helping him to develop as well and show his quality as a central defender. Our job is to keep doing the same with him and keep improving him because he has many things to improve to reach the level we know he can reach.

"It's an important moment in his career but I am happy he is happy."
