Marco Silva insists he 'did not lose a second' thinking about his 'privileged' Everton position

Marco Silva asserted he 'did not lose a second' thinking about his position at Everton ahead of their victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Silva's side had suffered six Premier League defeats overall heading into the fixture and were one place above the relegation zone.

Richarlison's winner at St Mary's fired them into 12th, however, and ended a seven-month wait for an away win while Silva was keen to point out how his side had been wronged two weeks earlier at Brighton and Hove Albion.

"Unfortunately we should have taken the three points 15 days ago, it was not our fault that we did not win against Brighton," the manager said.

"It is possible that the question would be different but this is the reality and, of course, we are happy.

"We won the game, we are really happy because we deserved the three points and we were the best team on the pitch and congratulations for our players - and our fans as well.

"They deserve to go home after a Southampton match and be happy with the result and performance.

"We should kill the game in the first-half because we were the better team and the chances we created, with better finishing, we would kill the game and not give them the chance to react they like reacted.

"But we showed strong character after the 1-1 with the equaliser and deserved the three points."

Everton will now head into the international break having taken four points from their last two games, easing question marks surrounding Silva's tenure at Goodison Park.

The Portuguese boss, though, spoke of the 'privilege' of his job and said he had not given credence to any media speculation.

"Myself? Never pressure. Why pressure?" he responded.

"Maybe if you talk about the football more and not so much about the speculation then maybe it will be different but I never feel pressure.

"It is good for me because I don't read what you are writing sometimes but, for me, football is always a privilege, being a manager in Everton Football Club is always a privilege. It is the way I look at my life and my job."

Silva continued: "My players know as well they came here with a goal clear to win a football match nothing more, being brave nothing more because we knew before the match they would react.

"They had their worst moment of the season against Leicester here. For sure they wanted to show their character and personality as well.

"When we prepared the game we wanted the same aggressiveness as them, to be brave like they would be and play a football match because at the end it would be just a football match.

"Our supporters would be there to support ourselves and it is what we did. The pressure I put on myself every day, my staff to be better every single day, all the other things, rumours, I didn't lose one second thinking of that."
