Marco Silva explains why Cenk Tosun's goals on international duty were "fantastic news" for Everton

Cenk Tosun doubled his goals tally for the year when he struck twice in Turkey's Euro qualifying victory over Moldova in midweek - but no-one had a bigger smile on his face than club boss Marco Silva.

Tosun has endured a difficult campaign since Silva arrived at Goodison Park last summer.

After starting five of Everton's first six matches of the season, he only started five of Everton's next 29 - and his only Everton goal of 2019 came in the FA Cup at Millwall seven minutes after coming on as a substitute.

But after his brace in midweek Silva said: "That's fantastic news for me. When I saw that, it was the best thing for me as a manager to see Cenk scoring important goals in the international break.

"It's really important because we know he has not been playing in the starting XI in the last few games but I know he is ready if I decide to start with him or put him on during the match.

"He is ready to help the team with his quality and with his capacity for scoring goals and it is most important for his confidence.

"I spoke with him yesterday when he came back and we spoke about the situation and how it is important for him to score goals.

Marco Silva describes Yerry Mina injury as "serious for Everton and for player"

"For sure Cenk Tosun will be ready and with confidence."

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's performances in the past few weeks have kept the Turkish striker on the bench - and Richarlison's performances in his debut season at Goodison, some of them in a central striking role, have also limited his appearances.

Richarlison was also on international duty in midweek, playing two matches for Brazil against Panama and the Czech Republic, and the Blues boss believes that his selection in the starting Xi for both matches underlines his progress this season.

"How good can he be? Very, very, very good," said Silva. "He is achieving now.

"If you look at last week, he is a player who is 21-years-old who played two matches in the Brazil national team.

"He started the two matches and to be in the starting XI is fantastic. You cannot forget where Richarlison was last season and how it was really difficult for him in the last six months of last season.

"But he has had a big impact at our club and he is just is 21 years old.

Marco Silva repeats the message Jordan Pickford delivered to Michael Keane after his first England goal

"For me the age is not important because if they (players) show quality at 21, or 20 or 33 it is the same thing. But more maturity and consistency comes with more games in your career and more experience, and of course Richarlison will achieve that.

"We have seen that already in some moments this season and while I want more consistency from him he is 21 and already scoring important goals for us and having a good season and achieving good things for him as a player.

"He has the conditions to achieve more and more and reach a high level in football."

Silva also reiterated that Richarlison has the ability to play across all three positions in the Blues forward line.

"He is able to play in three positions in attack," he added. "Some of you have asked about him playing on the left. In the last few games he has played on the right and he played there for the national team also.

"He is able to play in any position and I have to decide what will be best for us as a team.

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho backed to replace Marco Silva as Everton manager

"After that comes the preference of the player.

"They all know that the most important thing is Everton Football Club. What position they like is not the most important thing."
