Marco Silva: Everton manager responds to speculation his job is under threat

Marco Silva insists he is aware of the speculation surrounding his job as Everton manager but there are no “reasons to not be confident” in his work.

The Portuguese is under intense pressure at Goodison after a poor start to the season, which sees the Toffees sit 16th in the table, four points above the relegation zone.

Silva met with major shareholder Farhad Moshiri and director of football Marcel Brands following the home defeat to Norwich last weekend.

And Silva claims his relationship with the pair is “good” despite reports his job was discussed.

“I spoke with them Saturday, I spoke with them Sunday, I spoke with them Monday, it’s normally something we do often,” Silva told Football Focus.

“All of us we want the same, we want the best for our club, and you are together in this fight of course.

“I understand all the rumours even if I don’t know all of them. I don’t have reasons to not be confident in my work.”

Silva is now braced for a tough run of fixtures, with second-placed Leicester up next on Sunday, followed by the Merseyside derby at Anfield, Chelsea and then Manchester United.

“What we are doing every single day is our maximum, 100% maximum, to achieve what we want,” Silva added.

“Of course, the moment is not the best when you look to the table. You have to be realistic... but we are confident we can change things. I am always a positive manager, even in the tough moments.”
