Marco Silva describes Yerry Mina injury as "serious for Everton and for player"

Marco Silva has described Yerry Mina's latest injury blow as "serious for us as a club and for him" - but has refused to rule the defender out for the rest of the season.

Mina sustained a hamstring injury on international duty for Colombia against South Korea in midweek - his second appearance of the weekend - just days after playing the full 90 minutes of the previous Sunday's 2-0 defeat of Chelsea.

And Silva admitted that Everton had transmitted their concerns about the schedule to the Colombian medical team.

"He has had a scan and it is not good news," said Silva today. "It's serious for us as a club but really bad for him also.

"Now is the time for us to support him and give everything to get him a good condition again.

"It hasn't been an easy season for him. Since he joined the club he has had some unlucky moments.

"He joined with a bad injury but we knew before he went to the national team it could be a risk for him to play the two matches.

"We communicated that to the national team but we can't control their decisions.

Everton hero Tim Cahill makes major career decision

"Of course we tried to advise them and we did that after he played 90 minutes here in the Chelsea match. It was always a risk for him to play two games in a short period after that but they decided and unfortunately for us ands for Yerry he sustained the injury."

Asked if he was angry at the Colombians' decision to play Mina in back to back internationals he added: "It is not a case of being happy or unhappy about it. Okay you want to see the best players with their international teams but unfortunately for us and for Yerry he has to stop again.

Marco Silva rules out a move for Barcelona's Malcom

"He is not out for the rest of the season but let's see how many weeks it will be. It is not the right time to say how long he will be out but we expect to see him with us training and playing again."

There was better news for Everton's other injured international, though.

Lucas Digne returned from international duty with France after pulling up in training holding the top of his thigh.

But Silva added: "Lucas Digne, Andre Gomes and Phil Jagielka are all okay.

"With Lucas we need to take care of him in some moments but we have another session tomorrow and he should be okay for the weekend."
