Marco Silva cautious about two-striker formation after Sheffield United experiment

Marco Silva is cautious about starting two strikers despite his side's lack of goals this season.

The Blues have scored five goals in the league this season, drawing blanks against two newly promoted teams in Aston Villa and Sheffield United.

Silva has opted to play either Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Moise Kean as lone strikers but they have only one league goal between them.

Silva, however, insists that starting more than one of them will not guarantee his side more goals after experimenting with a double-pronged attack against United last weekend.

"We can adapt and I am here to take the best from the players we have," he said. "If you are asking to start with two strikers, we played 40 minutes with two strikers. But we created less chances than with one striker.

"Sometimes if you put so many strikers inside doesn't mean we will be creating more chances or scoring more goals and I think the last game we had was a good example because the first half we were more dangerous."

Calvert-Lewin scored twice in the League Cup against Sheffield Wednesday during the week and staked his claim for a starting place against Manchester City.
