Marco Silva bemoans points lost as Premier League admit mistake over Everton VAR decision

Marco Silva believes his side have lost out on crucial points in recent weeks because of VAR.

Everton have been involved in a number of controversial decisions over the last few games, in particular in matches against Brighton and Spurs.

On the south coast last week, with the Blues 2-1 up at the time, VAR handed the Seagulls a penalty after Michael Keane was adjudged to have fouled Aaron Connolly.

However the Premier League are now understood to have admitted the decision to award the spot kick was wrong, with Brighton going on to win that game 3-2.

Everton's clash with Spurs last weekend also centred around a number of controversial calls - with the hosts believing they should have had penalties for a Dele Alli handball and a Davinson Sanchez foul on Richarlison.

And Silva believes his side would be in a much different position if the decisions were "fair".

"It was so clear in the last three or four games and we are talking about it costing us five or six points," Silva said.

"Where would we be with those points? I don't have any doubts that we would be performing on a different level if we had those points.

"Every team in the world plays with more confidence when it is higher up the table. Now we are not in the position we want, I am not happy with the position we are in, but I know things would be completely different if football was fair with us.

"Now we go into another must-win game [at Southampton], and every game is a must-win game for us when we would have had more freedom and confidence had we been higher in the table."
