He remains among the bookies' favourites to be the next permanent Celtic manager but Marco Rose is now a top target for two Bundesliga giants aswell.

The Red Bull Salzburg boss' stock is rising rapidly as he closes in on the Austrian title and some turf accountants have him as low as 6/1 to be in charge at Celtic next season.

However, Schalke and Wolfsburg also have the 42-year-old firmly in their sights, according to German publication Kicker.

Much like the Hoops, Schalke have an interim boss - Huub Stevens - in charge until the end of the season.

Scott Brown admits Celtic pain from Rangers defeat will NEVER go away

Bruno Labbadia’s contract at Wolfsburg is up in June and they too are targeting a new manager.

Rose is regarded as one of the best young coaches in Europe and took the Austrians to the last 16 of the  Europa League .

His Salzburg team swept aside Celtic home and away to romp through their group stage and into the knockout rounds of the competition.

Rose in under contract at the Austrian side until 2020 and spoke earlier in the year about his situation.

He told Sky Sports Austria: “I know what I owe the club, and yet at some point it’s about my personal situation, about goals, about new challenges, and about making a decision.”

Interim boss Neil Lennon remains the oddds-on favourite for the Celtic job while Roberto Martinez has moved to 5/1 in the betting stakes.

David Moyes, Steve Clarke and Alex Neil are also among the frontrunners according to the bookies.
