Marco Reus pays Mesut Ozil a huge compliment and outlines his Unai Emery wish

Borussia Dortmund star and German international Marco Reus has said that Mesut Ozil is the best player he has played with for Die Mannschaft.

The 30-year-old Arsenal star quit the national team after he was made a scapegoat for Germany's early World Cup exit in he summer and released a three-part statement to outline the reasons why.

Firstly, the Arsenal playmaker broke his silence following his controversial photograph with Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan ahead of this summer's World Cup.

Part two saw Ozil take aim at sponsors of the German national team for failing to support him as members of the media and certain politicians sought to exploit his situation.

Then in the final part, Ozil confirmed his immediate retirement from international football citing the "racism and disrespect" he has faced in Germany over his Turkish roots.

Since then Joachim Low's side has undergone a great deal of transition, with Jerome Boateng, Thomas Mueller and Mats Hummels all dropped by the coach, with no sign of a return.

Results have nevertheless been mixed and Germany have won just once since their trip to Russia.

Reus believes it is a shame Ozil has stepped away and spoke of his hope that Unai Emery can pick an in form Ozil regularly for the Gunners.

Copa90 asked who the best player the Dortmund forward had played with on the international stage.

He said: "I would say Mesut Ozil because he is a player who has a really good eye for his team-mates, who can also create goals and has many assists in the Premier League and also the national team. He's just an intelligent player and you can see it at first glance.

"I always enjoyed playing with him and that's why, of course, it's a pity that he's taken a step back. I hope he'll get back to form and can return to playing for Arsenal regularly."
