Marco Negri points to Alfredo Morelos January transfer boost as Rangers hero backs emotional future return

Marco Negri has urged Alfredo Morelos to stay with Rangers until January - and believes he could return later in his career.

The Colombian striker wants out at Ibrox, with manager Steven Gerrard admitting his head has been turned by interest from Lille.

El Bufalo hasn't featured in either of Rangers ' last two fixtures, though he returned to the squad for the win over Hamilton.

While Morelos is keen to leave this summer, the man who scored 23 times in his first 10 games for the Ibrox club thinks the striker can afford to be patient.

Negri said on the Football Daft podcast : "I don’t think I’m the right person to advise him. But you always must think that beside a player there is also a person, a human person. He’s very young.

“He is playing with the heart because he always plays with 100 per cent of effort.

“You must always see the big picture, not the end of this picture, but the big picture.

“He’s been always effective, scoring lots of goals. It’s not easy when you see, every day, newspapers that you’re going to be sold, to train in the right way.

“Football is a special job, but in every job if you are not sure that your career is in a proper direction, you are not focused 100 per cent.

“But I think, like everybody’s saying, the badge on the top in front is bigger than any name on the back.

"I think if Morelos can stay, maybe until January, it will be a big boost.

“But also in Italy you say that it’s better to leave each other than never met each other in life. If something is going to end it’s good that everybody’s got something back.

"And maybe, he’s very young, he can come back in maybe a few years."
