Emergency services rushed to the scene of a building fire on Edinburgh's Marchmont Road earlier today (16 October)
A video taken at the scene shows smoke billowing out of a ground floor flat with three fire appliances and 10 firefighters outside.
The property affected is next door to a Sainsbury's Local store – at the junction with Spottiswoode Road. A section of pavement outside the shop and the property was cordoned off.
Marchmont Road, which is near The Meadows, remains open for the time being, however police are currently at the scene diverting traffic.
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 2.01pm on Monday, October 16 to reports of a fire within a ground floor flat on Marchmont Road in Edinburgh.
“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene and crews extinguished the flames.
“One man was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene before being handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.
“Crews remain in attendance as they work to make the area safe.”
