Celtic are reportedly set to open talks with Boca Juniors over a permanent switch for Marcelo Saracchi.
The Uruguayan left-back enjoyed a decent loan stint in Glasgow last season where he made 27 appearances in all competitions. The 28-year-old was even singled out for praise by manager Martin O'Neill.
His parent club in Argentina have told the player he is free to find a new club with no future planned at Boca.
And that triggered the Hoops into gear as the Daily Record claim the Scottish champions have held "preliminary talks" with the defender's representation with a view to coming to an agreement.
It has also been reported that O'Neill wants Saracchi to stay at Celtic and hopes to secure his services before pre-season with Kieran Tierney currently away with Scotland at the World Cup.
The player has transfer interest from elsewhere in the MLS as well as in Turkey so won't be short of options.
Saracchi's asking price may be as low as around £2million which would represent a decent bit of business for Celts if they can get a deal done.
It is being reported that, having started just 10 times for Celtic last term, Saracchi is hoping for assurances of playing time. However, a hamstring injury played a part in his lack of minutes at times as his club won the league and cup Double.
