Marcelo Flores set for Arsenal exit as Mexican side Tigres agree £2m transfer

Arsenal youngster Marcelo Flores is set to join Mexican side Tigres in a permanent transfer worth around £2million.

Flores travelled to Mexico on Thursday in order to undergo a medical and sign a four-year contract at the Estadio Universitario.

The 19-year-old has been with Arsenal since joining from Ipswich in 2019, but did not make a single appearance for the first team during that time.

The three-cap Mexico winger played regularly for the club’s youth sides though and was sent out on loan to Spanish side Real Oviedo last season.

Flores’ previous contract had been due to expire this summer, but earlier this year Arsenal triggered an automatic two-year extension.

After arriving back in Mexico, Flores told reporters: “Happy with this new stage and ready to start the new stage with the best club in Mexico.”

The transfer is expected to be concluded by Saturday, with Tigres travelling to face Atlas in their next Liga MX game after the international break on September 18.
