The former coach of Mateusz Bogusz believes Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa 'will make him a star'.
Juan Ramón Rocha, who is the former manager of Ruch Chorzów, believes the the 19-year-old, who joined the Whites in the summer, made the right call be choosing the Elland Road club.
Rocha, who is also a former team-mate of Bielsa's having spent time with the experienced boss at Argentine side Newell’s Old Boys in the 70s, has also revealed how at one point Bogusz had the chance to join Brighton, but he is relieved he opted to link up with his former team-mate in Yorkshire instead.
“Once, with Krzysztof Warzycha, we went to a match of Ruch juniors. I immediately asked who this boy was. They answered it was Bogusz, but that he was very young,” Rocha told Polish publication Super Express.
“Even then I had no doubt and asked to include him in the first team. Then came the offer from Napoli, but only for a trail. I objected and said we either sell him or he stays. Trials are out of the question.
“And since I wish Bogusz and my friend Bielsa very well, I let Marcelo know that there is a talent in Chorzów that is worth paying attention to.
“At first Leeds didn’t seem to have a chance, because Brighton’s offer was much higher, but eventually it worked. I am happy because I know that Bogusz will not die with Marcelo. Bielsa will make him a star.”
Before Rocha went on to compare the midfielder to Sevilla star Ever Banega.
“If I were to compare Bogusz to one of the Argentine players in terms of playing style, I would choose Ever Banega from Sevilla… I believe that Bogusz will match him at least,” he added.
“His value will go up all the time. Now you can easily price him at £5m, and this is just the beginning. I’m glad I could help.
“I did it completely selflessly, I am so romantic and I will die so. The most important thing is that everyone after this transfer is satisfied. Bielsa jokes that in return I have to accept the invitation and fly to a Leeds United match.”
