Marcelo Bielsa urged to make Leeds United change as possible Brighton problem highlighted

Here is your Leeds United morning digest on Wednesday, January 13.

Hutton calls for Leeds change

Alan Hutton has called on Marcelo Bielsa to find a way to make his Leeds side more consistent after Sunday's FA Cup defeat to League Two side Crawley Town.

The fourth-tier side scored three second-half goals to sink the Whites to make it back-to-back losses for Bielsa's team.

Leeds have enjoyed a largely positive start to life back in the Premier League following their promotion last season, but have been inconsistent with their results.

Hutton, when speaking to Football Insider, called on the Yorkshire side to find some consistency from somewhere.

"That’s just Leeds all over now, you just don’t know what you’re going to get – you’re either going to get a 4-0 win or a 4-0 defeat," the ex-Aston Villa defender said.

"I just don’t think you can carry on that way, something has to change."

Brighton formation to cause Leeds problems

Leeds take on Brighton & Hove Albion at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon, as the Whites return to Premier League action.

Bielsa's team will come up against a Seagulls side that have struggled to gain any momentum in the league so far this season.

In eight of Brighton's 17 Premier League games this season, Graham Potter has opted with two strikers - something that is extremely rare in the top-flight nowadays.

This could cause Leeds some serious problems on Saturday, with Bielsa usually choosing the 4-1-4-1 formation, but often changing against a two-man attack.

The Argentine coach could go with a 3-3-1-3 in order to retain a man advantage in defence, but it could have a negative impact on the Whites' creativity in attack - something we've seen already this season.

Alioski's unlikely role in Leeds contract talks

Ezgjan Alioski is in the final six months of his contract at Leeds, but there might be an unlikely factor that has not been considered if he is offered a new deal.

The versatile Alioski can frustrate at times, but he is often a reliable member of the squad for Bielsa to choose when needed.

The North Macedonia international rarely picks up injuries, meaning he can consistently be counted upon by Bielsa, not even mentioning his high work-rate when on the pitch.

If he does indeed agree a new deal to stay put at Elland Road, then there may be a term in the contract to ensure he is a utility player - someone that can replace his injured team-mates.
