Marcelo Bielsa told he's a Premier League manager ahead of Leeds United's final promotion push

Former Portsmouth and West Ham midfielder Gary O'Neil has insisted that Marcelo Bielsa is a Premier League manager in waiting ahead of Leeds United's season restart.

The Whites will begin the final nine matches of their promotion charge after a three-month stoppage when they face Cardiff City on Sunday, June 21.

With Leeds holding a seven-point lead over Fulham in third and sitting top of the Championship table, the club are expected to make their long-awaited return to the Premier League in the next six weeks.

It would complete a phenomenal transformation sparked by Bielsa's arrival, which could see the Argentine transform Leeds from a mid-table side to Championship winners.

O'Neil believes that Leeds will secure promotion this season and believe Bielsa has done a phenomenal job, working at a level below his true ability in the Championship.

“I think Leeds are very, very good at mixing it up," O'Neill told The Football Show.

“They don’t have to play fantastically well to win and they press the ball really well. They play with an intensity.

“I think Bielsa has sort of opened all our eyes as to what a top coach he is.

“Especially to be working the Championship you feel he could be a Premier League manager working in a league below he should be.

“He has done a fantastic job there, but can he get them over the line? Last year we thought they were going to do it and they didn’t.

“This year I am sure he will be keen to make sure they get the job done.”
