Marcelo Bielsa to stay at Leeds after extending contract

Marcelo Bielsa is set to stay at Leeds after his contract was extended by the club.

The Championship club exercised the option to extend the Argentine's stay in Yorkshire for another season after he narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League this campaign.

Bielsa met with Leeds chiefs following defeat in the play-off semi final against Derby to discuss his future.

The Argentine initially put pen to paper on a two-year deal at Elland Road, which would be reviewed after his first season.

Leeds, who had the right to terminate Bielsa's contract, have opted to extend the Argentine's stay.

Bielsa will be tasked with winning promotion in the coming season, which will likely determine his future at the club at the close of the campaign.

Leeds finished third in the Championship this season despite occupying the top spot for much of the campaign.

They were considered one of the stronger teams in the play-offs and beat Derby in the first leg of their semi-final at the iPro Stadium.

In the second leg the Whites took the lead through Stuart Dallas before the wheels came off and Frank Lampard's team battled back.

Goals from Jack Marriott (2), Mason Mount and Harry Wilson booked Derby's place in the play-off final, despite Dallas bagging a brace.
