Marcelo Bielsa shares Leeds United concern as Jack Harrison explains Brighton struggles

Here is your Leeds United morning digest on Sunday, January 17.

Mills heaps praise on Cooper

Former Leeds defender Danny Mills has heaped praise on club captain Liam Cooper after his performance against Brighton.

Cooper returned to action against the Seagulls, but the Whites were beaten 1-0 at Elland Road thanks to Neil Maupay's first-half goal.

However, speaking to Football Insider, Mills was very complimentary of the Leeds centre-back after a solid performance from the Scottish defender.

The ex-Whites full-back said: "He’s a defensive stalwart, isn’t he? That 45 minutes against Crawley Town was always the plan, get him some game time and into the fold and make sure he came through unscathed. That’s exactly what they did.

"In hindsight, they may have left him on for the second-half against Crawley, but that’s easy to say now.

"It just goes to show Bielsa’s thoughts are more with the Premier League than the FA Cup."

Why are Leeds struggling going forward?

Bielsa's shares Leeds concern

Leeds have now lost three games in 2021, where Marcelo Bielsa's side have failed to find the back of the net.

This is something that concerns Bielsa, the Argentine coach has confirmed, as he tried to put his finger on what is going wrong at the top-end of the pitch.

The Whites were disappointing in the attacking third in Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Brighton, with Bielsa's team struggling to create too many clear-cut chances.

Speaking after the game, the Leeds boss said: "It worries me. The response could not be any different.

"To have lost three games without scoring, cannot happen without worrying.

"All different games. In the game against Spurs, even though we lost, the sensation was not a bad one.

"In the last two, cup and today, in both these games we didn't defend well and didn't attack well either.

"That's to say we defended below our resources and we attacked below our possibilities. Those two factors generate worry."

Harrison explains Whites' attacking woes

As just mentioned, Leeds have failed to score in three defeats in 2021, and Jack Harrison has admitted that his team struggled to break down Brighton's defensive line on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites have now lost three consecutive games in all competitions, and yesterday, it took them 61 minutes to register a shot on target.

After a difficult afternoon in Yorkshire, Harrison admitted his side were lacking their usual attacking talent against a resolute Seagulls outfit.

"I think they had a very compact defence, we struggled to break them down and get behind them at times," Harrison told LUTV.

"Our style of play is usually attacking and creating as many chances as possible but we struggled to do that today. They had done their homework and stopped how we play so it's something we have to look back on, review this weekend and be ready for the next game.

"I personally felt like there were chances coming. I had one which just missed the far post, I should've scored that. I always had the feeling that something was going to come."
