Marcelo Bielsa's surprise at Poveda 'evolution' as Bayern boss discusses failed Cuisance move

Here is your Leeds morning digest for Sunday, October 4.

Bielsa surprised by Poveda after Man City game

Marcelo Bielsa admits he has been surprised by the development of Ian Poveda after the youngster’s cameo in Saturday’s game against Manchester City.

The 20-year-old came off the bench for the second half and tormented Benjamin Mendy on Leeds United's right flank.

And Bielsa was quick to highlight Poveda’s qualities after what was an impressive first Premier League appearance.

“First of all, he’s a very highly technical player,” the Leeds boss said in his post-match press conference .

“He’s a competitive player and he has physical resources which I haven’t seen before. He’s a player who in sprints and distance covered has immense values.

“This player came to Leeds thanks to Victor Orta and when I saw him I did not think he was going to have the evolution that he is having or the qualities that he is showing.”

Flick says Bayern medical team have ‘different opinion’ on Cuisance

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has suggested Michael Cuisance’s proposed move to Leeds did not fall through because of a failed medical.

The 21-year-old was set to join the Whites last week, but the deal collapsed at the last moment.

It was widely reported that Cuisance had not passed his medical at Elland Road, though Flick’s comments imply that was not the case.

“The situation is certainly not that easy for him now. It was certainly a setback, but I can say that our medical staff have a completely different opinion," he said.

“That’s why we’ve told him we support him in every way. For him the position is difficult.”

How Leeds' players rated in City draw

Leeds were impressive once again as they competed with a Manchester City team filled with quality and earned a 1-1 draw on Saturday night.

Summer signing Rodrigo opened his Premier League account for the club after Raheem Sterling had put the visitors in front in the first half.

And there were plenty of standout performers as Bielsa’s side climbed to fifth in the early Premier League standings.

Here we rated all the players, with Robin Koch and Helder Costa putting in particularly eye-catching displays.
