Marcelo Bielsa's message to Leeds players ahead of play-off semi return with Derby

Marcelo Bielsa has warned his Leeds players they are not at Wembley yet.

Leeds are favourites to reach the play-off final and lead Derby 1-0 going into Wednesday’s semi-final return at Elland Road.

They have beaten Derby three times this season by an aggregate score of 7-1, but Bielsa claims the tie is far from over.

The Leeds boss insists there is little difference between the sides and said: “Every game is different.

“We won one game by just the difference of one goal, one by two goals difference.

“In the first game in August we were the same team as we are now, but Derby were a lot inferior to what they are now.

“So we should be careful with the analysis and the scoreline is not 7-1. I think we should analyse more the 1-0 and the 2-0 games.

“It’s a small difference and you can’t say there is a big gap between the teams.”

On Saturday Leeds looked more like the side which spent most of the regular season in the top-two positions before trailing off and taking just one point from their last four games.

Bielsa, who has Patrick Bamford back from suspension, but is without the injured Kemar Roofe and Tyler Roberts, wants more of the same on Wednesday.

“We would like to have the same performance, but we know it’s going to be very hard,” said the Argentinian.

“It’s two games, but you can actually say it’s one. We have played the first half and usually you don’t make comments at half-time.

“The first game was not simple for us and we’re sure the next game won’t be easy either.”

Bielsa felt his team’s energetic display answered the critics, who claim his teams tire because he demands so much from them.

“You’ve heard that my teams usually arrive at this segment of the season tired physically and mentally,” he said.

“The game against Derby is the game we ran most in the whole season.”
