Marcelo Bielsa's message to fans calling for changes at Leeds United

One goal and the entire narrative about Leeds United, the entire frenzy and concern about home form would have disappeared on Saturday.

Head coach Marcelo Bielsa has total confidence and belief in the quality of his side’s performance against Derby County and does not buy into the panic of some quarters.

The Whites boss said the post-match debrief would have revolved around how experienced and dominant his side were had that one goal, one penalty rolled in.

Bielsa’s point is the performance was there, 60 minutes of the best he has seen in his tenure, and there is no need to rip up the plan which has taken them to the Championship summit.

Ever the romantic though, Bielsa oddly loves football for these rash, emotional reactions to results.

Asked if he felt his players grew nervous towards Saturday’s climax, if he felt a Derby goal was inevitable, Bielsa said: “No.

“The players take decisions to try to protect themselves.

“If they press high and the pressure fails after they go deep, if they are building the play from behind, adding passes and we have a lack of mobility after they choose to play long.

“So they take those measures and for me the product is the result of what has happened to us in the past.

“Today, we did some things we didn't do in the past and everyone claimed for us to do and now if you claim the team to do this after Derby create just one chance, it's the wrong way to see this.

“If we had won the match we would have talk this was a very experienced team who closed the match. This was the idea, but for this reason football is so attractive.

“Because you have one truth and another truth and both of them are right.”
