Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United success draws Wenger comparison as Mateusz Klich unravels mystery

Bielsa earns comparisons with Wenger

The Whites sat top of the Championship and on the verge of a return to the Premier League before the season was postponed last month.

But Bielsa’s impact at the club has been seismic. Kinnear, who worked with Wenger previously in his career, has suggested there are similarities between the two managers.

“I started my football career at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, and he had a football philosophy that really touched every part of the club," Kinnear told Sky Sports' The Football Show.

“And Marcelo has been the same. He is not just a coach - and he is an amazing coach who brought in a group of players who finished mid-table the season before he joined and it’s effectively the same group of players who are now top of the league - but actually his influence has extended across the club as a whole.

“He has set new standards, he has set a new philosophy and that has really touched every part of the club.”

Strachan recalls Batty’s worst habit at Leeds

Gordon Strachan has suggested his former Leeds teammate David Batty enjoyed “kicking people” more than playing football.

The latter has gone on to become something of a cult figure for the United faithful after his two spells with the club before retirement in 2004.

And Strachan, who played alongside Batty in the late 80s and early 90s, reflected on what it was like to share a pitch with the unorthodox midfielder.

“You get people like David Batty, who was very unusual. I don’t think he liked football, he just liked running about kicking people,” Strachan told talkSPORT.

“I don’t think he loved the game, but he was funny, he was hilarious to play with.”

Klich explains unusual shirt number

Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich has explained why he plays with the number 43 on the back of his shirt.

The Poland international has had the same number since joining the club from FC Twente in 2017.

And he has now revealed the mystery behind it.

"It was my first number in professional football," he said. "I got it when I finished in the academy in Cracovia and they gave me the first number in the first team so it's quite a lucky number.

"I won a cup in Holland with 43, so I like that number."
