Marcelo Bielsa's honest take on Eddie Nketiah's Leeds United future

Marcelo Bielsa can neither confirm nor deny that Eddie Nketiah will remain a Leeds United player following the upcoming January transfer window.

The striker, who has scored five goals for Leeds but is yet to be given a league start, is heavily rumoured to be recalled by his parent club Arsenal when the opportunity presents itself.

It's been suggested that the Gunners would look to send him elsewhere on loan for the latter half of the season in a bid to give him more first-team football experience.

Asked about the rumours in his , Bielsa gave a short answer: "We have no information."

The latest update from Arsenal's end was from their interim manager Freddie Ljungberg, who intimated he was unhappy with the lack of opportunities for the 20-year-old.

"If he goes on loan we want him to play football and get minutes otherwise they (players out on loan) can maybe be here," said the Swede during his time as Gunners boss.

"We want them to be on loan to get minutes."

However, it remains to be seen how the recently-appointed permanent Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta views the situation, and how that might change things.

Ljungberg knows Nketiah well from his work within Arsenal's academy, but Arteta hasn't worked at The Emirates since retiring as a player in 2016 and won't be as familiar with the player.

Bielsa has previously suggested that he'd personally like to see Nketiah carry on his development at Leeds beyond this season, returning next year, but that would appear unlikely unless he begins starting league games soon.

"I desire and I hope he continues [with us]," the Argentinian said earlier in December.

"I also wish he wants to stay with us. If he stays, to me, his integration into Leeds is going to be good, that he stays with us after January and one more year [after that]."

The striker might not have made a start in the Championship, but his three goals off the bench have won five vital points for the Whites this season, while it was his shot on goal that led to Patrick Bamford's equaliser at Fulham on Saturday.

Leeds travel to The Emirates Stadium to face Mikel Arteta's Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday, January 6th.
