Marcelo Bielsa's half-term verdict and message to Leeds United fans

Marcelo Bielsa is more concerned with Leeds United’s performances than points on the board at the halfway point of the season.

The 2-1 defeat at Fulham keeps the Whites in second place, though Scott Parker’s Cottagers gained three points on Bielsa’s side to close the gap to nine points behind the automatic promotion positions.

It’s still a healthy position to be in for United, but there will undoubtedly be some regret and anxiety in some quarters they missed an opportunity to extend the lead to 14 points over third (and 17 points over Fulham) had they managed to beat Fulham and Cardiff.

However, the Leeds head coach is a firm believer in focusing on his team’s performances, intimating the points will come as long as they’re performing at a high level.

He was keen to stress that when asked about his view of the table at the half-way stage and sounds satisfied with the way his team are currently playing.

He also said if the team drop points, even if it’s in a game in which they played well, he’ll analyse the factors to avoid repeats.

“The level of play is good,” said the Argentinian after the 2-1 defeat at Fulham.

“I don’t think we play a match where the opponent played better than us or beat us, but imagine which kind of conclusion we would have today if we had five more points or three more points.

“It’s necessary to ask ourselves what would happen if something different had happened should happen to obtain three more points.

“We missed points we deserved to win, but important things get what they deserve. When they don’t get what they deserve there are some things to improve.”
