Marcelo Bielsa reveals Leeds United's latest injury problem following training ground issue

Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that Pascal Struijk is Leeds United's latest injury victim, after the defender was absent from Saturday's 3-2 defeat to Chelsea.

The Whites head coach headed to Stamford Bridge with a lengthy injury list that comprised of Liam Cooper, Robin Koch, Kalvin Phillips, Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo.

Struijk, who has been managing a hip injury in recent weeks, was expected to be in contention to return to the squad after missing the last two matches, but was absent from the Stamford Bridge teamsheet.

Luke Ayling filled in at centre-back alongside Diego Llorente, with Jamie Shackleton in at right-back as Leeds conceded two penalties - one deep into second half stoppage time - on their way to a 3-2 defeat.

Following the defeat, Bielsa gave an update on the Dutch defender.

"He was going to play the game, and in yesterday's training he had a movement, two of the bones in his foot collided and that produced a pain," he said.

"There's no risk, the pain is difficult to tolerate and the inflammation didn't go down from yesterday to today and last minute we couldn't count on him."

Bielsa's side took a first-half lead when Raphinha converted from the penalty spot on 28 minutes following Marcos Alonso's foul on Daniel James, only for Mason Mount to level the scores three minutes before the break.

Jorginho put the hosts ahead with a penalty shortly before the hour mark after Raphinha brought down Antonio Rudiger in the box, only for substitute Joe Gelhardt to level the scores with his first goal for the club, less than two minutes after coming on as an 82nd-minute substitute.

Any hopes that Bielsa's injury-hit side could claim a hard-fought point were shattered in stoppage time when Jorginho was able to score his second goal from the spot after Mateusz Klich brought down Rudiger.

Leeds are back in action on Tuesday night with another tough fixture when they visit Manchester City on Tuesday night.
