Marcelo Bielsa ready to unleash different approach as Leeds United host West Ham

Leeds United signed Valencia's Rodrigo Moreno and Stade Rennais' Raphinha for a combined figure of £44 million this summer, which represented an enormous outlay compared to previous campaigns.

This came about because of Leeds United's return to the top flight for the first time in 16 years, meaning the club could afford to splash out on attacking players at the apex of European football.

Marcelo Bielsa confirmed in his latest press conference that the pairing would start alongside each other in midfield for the visit of West Ham United this weekend.

Raphinha has made two starts for the club so far, against Everton and Chelsea, the former in which he scored the game's only goal. Rodrigo meanwhile has started more frequently but not recently, coming off the bench in each of the last three contests.

It is a prospect which excites Leeds United supporters, to see the two players in the squad with intercontinental influence take to the field.

It has been some time since Leeds had a Brazilian-born player to shout about, with Adryan and Roque Junior sending shivers down the spine rather than titillating a fanbase's fond, collective memories.

Rodrigo and Raphinha both have Brazilian influence, and have displayed their stereotypical trickery and comfort in possession in the short time they have been Leeds United players.

Raphinha has already demonstrated his positional flexibility, out-to-in runs and tactical intelligence, while Rodrigo has shown himself to be a real livewire, even at 29 years of age.

The prospect of the two combining with neat, intricate movements in and around West Ham's penalty area is enticing.

David Moyes' Hammers are stocked with tall, physical players but may struggle to contend with defending against nimble, technically excellent passers and dribblers. Fortunately for Leeds, their Brazilian-born partnership are adept at both.

Rodrigo's inclusion implies more of an attacking approach will be utilised against West Ham, which is hard to believe considering how effective Leeds have been at creating chances without him in the side.

Now, with his return imminent - and confirmed by his manager - Rodrigo could perhaps be the elixir of life needed to turn those opportunities into moments to celebrate.

Raphinha will also do his bit to help stir the Leeds fanbase's excitement. The 23-year-old has already completed eight of his 12 dribbles in the Premier League and created five chances for his teammates according to WhoScored.

That works out at 1.4 chances created per 90 minutes, and 2.2 successful dribbles per 90 - the latter being more than any other Leeds player with 200 minutes to their name this season.

West Ham will be no pushovers this season, as they have already shown with wins over Leicester City and Wolverhampton Wanderers, however Leeds are a different animal altogether and are a test for any side who visit Elland Road.
