Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa was quick to heap praise on winger Daniel James following the 1-0 victory over Watford at Elland Road on Saturday.
James was making his fifth appearance for the Whites since his £25m deadline day move from Manchester United and put in his most impressive performance so far.
The 23-year-old was a constant thorn in the Watford side throughout the afternoon due to his pace and directness, while his relentless pressing off the ball demonstrated exactly why Bielsa had been keen on the Welshman for over two and a half years.
66-year-old Bielsa was delighted with what he saw from James and believes that his attributes will ensure that he continues to make a strong impact at Elland Road.
“Every time he plays, he plays better than the previous game,” he said. “He shows the resources and qualities we know he has. He is going to make a special contribution to our team.
“We have three players very close to each other (Raphinha, James and Jack Harrison).”
With that in mind, James will have to make sure that he continues to put in this level of performance on a consistent basis.
Harrison, who was an unused substitute at the weekend, scored eight goals and provided eight assists last season and will no doubt be chomping at the bit to regain his place back in Bielsa’s starting XI.
The £11m summer signing from Manchester City has just recently returned from a bout of Covid-19 and will have to regain his form from last term if he is to dislodge either Raphinha or James from the side.
